Ever heard, “Once a Marine, Always a Marine?” I’m married to a Marine Corps officer and all his buddies who have retired bristle if anyone says, “Oh, you used to be a Marine?” It doesn’t matter if they were injured and separated months after graduating boot camp or if they are still serving after 28 years like my better half. The loyalty and pride run deep. What does the Marine Corps know that Corporate America is still trying to figure out?
It’s not just military. Fire fighters, EMTs, and Police live and breath their departments, but doctors and lawyers and engineers rarely associate themselves with their organization. So, what is it? Does danger bond these people together? Or is it something we can build without putting the lives of our employees at risk?
